(Another) Fiesta Bowl Update
Thursday, December 20, 2001

It looks like the band is getting ready for the Fiesta Bowl. Even though they're performing the instrumental version of Star Spangled Banner, the entire band is involved with it (which means Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo are participating despite the fact that they won't be singing).

The whole band has spent the last few days rehearsing, and will continue to do so until the event (they'll even be having a dress rehearsal, from what I hear).

Fiesta Bowl Update

Boston Webring Update
Monday, September 10, 2001

If you run a Boston fan site, you may be familiar with the Rock Band Boston Webring. For the last 5 years, the ring's been run by Jody Wager. That's changed as of today.

Over the last couple of months, we've exchanged emails and she told me she wanted to find someone else to take it over. I gladly volunteered to assume responsibility for it. I am now the ringmaster for The Rock Band Boston Webring.

If you have a Boston site that is in the webring, you'll need to get the latest html code to insert. I have relinked to my webring page and I've redesigned the interface (mostly cosmetic changes). There are 2 different interfaces to choose from (they are similar except one uses a regular image, while the other uses Flash animation (nothing too extravagant). To pick thich one you want, go to the webring page.

If you have any questions regarding the webring, please email me (just click on Contact Me).

WZLX: From The Vaults Update
Monday, August 20, 2001

The WZLX: From The Vaults CD has been officially closed out. Here's the following statement released:

"The project has now been officially closed out, although people can still order the CD through newbury.com as Newbury Comics sells off its remaining stock."

"The reported net profit was a bit over $25,000 and was split between The Walden Woods Project and Franciscan Children's Hospital."

"Thanks to all who bought a copy!"

For those who don't know what this CD is about, it was released late last year. It features live tracks from quite a few artists, one of the tracks is a live version of Boston's Livin' For You.

25 Years of Boston
Thursday, August 09, 2001

On August 9, 1976, one of the greatest albums of ALL TIME was released. It was simply titled Boston. It was the album that started it all for Boston. 25 Years later, it still remains as one of the best selling debut albums in music history. Many of the songs on this album remain a staple to rock radio stations.

The Monks To Reunite
Friday, July 06, 2001

July 27th, The Monks will reunite to perform for a special benefit. What do The Monks have to do with Boston? Brad Delp was their lead singer. This band played nearly every weekend between 1965-69 in clubs, colleges and high schools in the New England Area.

The performance takes place at The Danversport yacht Club in Danvers, MA from 7pm-midnight. Proceeds support the Danvers group, "The Friends of Folly Hill-dedicated to land preservation in Danvers, MA.".

Also performing will be Wilder Road and Gary Santarella; who'll be doing an acoustical set. If you'd like more information or to get your hands on advance tickets, call Steve Prodanus at (978) 774-2386 or Flo Sagarino at (978) 774-7097.

Album Almost Done
Saturday, June 09, 2001

The June 8 Jam! Showbiz article talks with Artemis Records CEO Danny Goldberg (as youy may or may not know, Artemis is Boston's new record label). While there's not a whole lot of insight into the album, there are a couple of points Goldberg made:

"They are about three-quarters of the way done. We have six mixes in house, four more to go. The other four songs, the rough tracks are done,"

"I don't want to jinx it by saying when it is going to come out. But it is awfully close to being finished."

To read the entire article, just go here.

Third Stage: A New World Turns 2!
Friday, June 01, 2001

June 1, 2001 marks the 2nd anniversary of the official launch of Third Stage: A New World. This site has reached just under 30,000 hits within that time and has seen 3 different domains and many changes/additions.

I want to thank everybody who's supported me and this site, thanks to those who've passed on Boston tidbits (especially Becky Asbury, who has passed on more than a few!).

A special thanks goes to all past and present members of Boston. Without you, there would be no Boston, and this site wouldn't be here

Boston Getting Promoted
Tuesday, May 29, 2001

It seems that as of late, there is more awareness of the fact that Boston is working on another album. From what I'm hearing, more radio stations are making mention of the new album. There was also a blurb at melodicrock.com, but if you read the posting above this one, you'll see it's been...changed.

Let's hope that Boston will get lots of promotion for this album (whenever Tom gets it done).

Boston.org Gets Slammed
Tuesday, May 29, 2001

I paid a visit to melodicrock.com and was surprised to see that the blurb they had about the new Boston songs was replaced with the following statement regarding boston.org (posted under the May 19 section):

Thanks go to the few tired and frustrated Boston fans that e-mailed me with news that the 2 preview tracks have been on the Boston site since mid last year. No thanks go to the Boston webmasters who are misleading fans and non-regular visitors to the site with the news page carrying the May 2001 date. I have attempted to contact the band and management to no avail. The tone of all the Boston e-mails sent to me were the same - very frustrated and despondent.

As of May 30th, boston.org posted a note clarifying the fact the songs are the same version played on Rockline.

New Songs
Tuesday, May 08, 2001

Boston.org has released better quality versions of Someone and Turn It Off. They're both from the Rockline interview (Recorded January 13, 1999), so you won't hear anything different production-wise, but they're better than the 24Kbps 11KHz versions originally available (the new mp3 files are 128Kbps, 44.1KHz).

To download them, go to the boston.org What's New section.

Happy Birthday David
Wednesday, April 25, 2001

I'd like to wish a very happy birthday to former Boston bass player David Sikes. Hope you're celebrating safely :)

Album Update
Tuesday, April 17, 2001

This was submitted to the Boston listserv by Paul Falce:

Yesterday in Boston on WZLX. Brad Delp said that the new album and a tour should be ready for the fall. The New album is still unnamed and that some of the songs are written by Fran Cosmo. And That he and Fran would be singing lead on the new album.

Let's hope this is true (that would mean that we'd get the album this year).

Album Update
Monday, April 09, 2001

(thanks Becky!)

If anyone out there was wondering if Tom and the band were still working on the album, the answer is YES!

In fact, Tom's been working through the weekends and having many sleepless nights trying to finish the album.

It is unknown as to the album title, song listings, or even when it'll be released, but he's still working hard on getting it done.

Tom very much appreciates all the fans, and knows how patiently everyone is waiting.

Happy Birthday Fran
Sunday, March 25, 2001

March 26th marks the 52nd birthday of Boston's original bass player Fran Sheehan. Hope Fran will be PARTYing on this day!

Happy Birthday Tom
Saturday, March 10, 2001

March 10/01 marks Tom Scholz's 54th birthday. Happy birthday Tom, I hope you enjoy your day!

Happy Birthday Curly
Wednesday, January 31, 2001

January 31 marks the birthday of current Boston drummer Curly Smith. Happy birthday Curly!

Sunday, January 14, 2001

(Thanks to Joe Screnock)

The March 2001 edition of GuitarOne magazine mentioned Boston in their article Where Are They Now?. Here's what they had to say:

"Boston's notorious perfectionist Tom Scholz has historically had a hard time squeezing songs and albums past his own Quality Control department. At last check, our favorite MIT grad was holed up in his Boston studio with guitarists Gary Pihl and David Sikes working on a new album."

Well, they got that about 1/2 right. Boston is in the studio, but David Sikes isn't in the band (hasn't been for quite a while). Also, David Sikes was the bass player, NOT guitarist.

Just a Note
Sunday, January 14, 2001

I just wanted to address something that I've been asked quite frequently lately, "When will Boston be touring?". As of now, it is unknown, but I think once the album is out, there will very likely be a tour to promote it (if it's out this year, it would also mark the 25th aniversary of Boston).
