Barry Goudreau Solo Album Remastered *UPDATE* |
|
After some doubts arose about the legitimacy of this release, I contacted Barry Goudreau about it, and he said he was aware of the release, but he had not spoken to anyone from that label, or had any knowledge of that the material consisted of. As the site claims it had "full involvement from Barry Goudreau" that means this is not legitimate and therefore people should not buy this.
I have added the link back to the site to allow readers to see the information. I do not recommend you buy this!
This info comes from Rock Candy. It has also been posted on melodicrock.com.
There's no getting away from the fact that the debut Boston album was one of the greatest, and of course most successful, recordings in the history of rock music. It was a record that changed the lives of the band members forever, rapidly elevating them from humble beginnings to headlining huge arenas worldwide. But good fortune soon turned to disappointment as the band slowly began to implode under the constant demand to keep the cogs of their hit making machine in motion.
By 1980 Boston was effectively put on ice by leader Tom Scholz, in an effort to resolve numerous business differences, leaving the rest of the group with time on their hands. Guitarist Barry Goudreau seized the moment and set about recording a solo album, enlisting the help of then unknown vocalist Fran Cosmo who, ironically, would later go on to replace front man Brad Delp in Boston.
Every inch as good as a fully-formed Boston album, the record is choc full of superbly constructed songs, great hooks, impressive production (from John Boylan, the producer of the debut Boston album) and Goudreau’s unmistakable, rich guitar tone. Look out too for further support from fellow Bostonians Sib Hashian and Brad Delp. A great lost classic for sure and one that sounds as impressive today as it did when first released.
24-bit remastering from original source tapes, 4,000 word essay about the making of the album and a new interview and full involvement from Barry Goudreau. Additional previously unseen photos and memorabilia spread out over a 12 page full colour booklet.

Some updates on bandboston.com |
The official Boston site has posted some updates on the front page. Tom Scholz was recently interviewed for a PBS special " On Record: The Soundtrack of Our Lives", hosted by Sir George Martin, which is due to be broadcast in 2010. The documentary is an 8-hour special about the history of recorded music. The camera crew took many shots in Tom's studio Hideaway II. Artist for The Simpsons gave each band member a BOSTONized Simpsons Cartoon with the following note: To the members of Boston-
I grew up in Chelmsford, Mass, attended the Rhode Island School of Design, and landed the dream job of designing the Simpsons immediately following graduation in 1990. Boston has always by far been one of my favorite bands, and has literally helped me through 1000's of hours while sitting at the old drawing board over the years.
I had the privilege of meeting Brad Delp back in the spring of 2000 and many times after that through his band Beatlejuice. The last time I saw Brad, we discussed my doing a funny-cool Simpsons/Boston piece. He laughed and said, "Oh man, that'd be great - everybody in the band would love that." I hope you like it! It's the least I can do for all the great music over the years and I hope for many years to come! God bless you, your families and all your future endeavors! Your Fan - Lance Wilder and all the Boston Fans here on the Simpsons

The site also mentions the release of the Greatest Hits Remaster, which has been previously reported here. Also, as some are aware, Michael Sweet's wife Kyle has been battling ovarian cancer. I'm sure you will join me in wishing Kyle the strength to beat this cancer. |

Judge: Tom Scholz must produce documents |
|
PLEASE NOTE: This article is related to a lawsuit against Boston Herald, Inc, the same source this article originates.
By Jerry Kronenberg Boston Herald
A judge has ordered Tom Scholz of the rock band Boston to turn over documents, including e-mails between him and key figures in the case, sought by Herald lawyers defending the paper against a libel suit brought by Scholz.
Suffolk Superior Court Judge John C. Cratsley has granted Herald motions compelling Scholz, his wife, his ex-wife and his accountants to produce within 30 days e-mails and other documents that they had previously withheld.
“All e-mail correspondence shall be produced in its entirety, including any preceding messages and attachments,” Cratsley ruled.
The court rejected Scholz’s bid to subject the material to a far-reaching confidentiality order that the Herald’s lawyers claimed would have let Scholz pick and choose which documents to seal from public view.
Scholz’s lawyers argued that such an order was needed to protect the musician’s personal and business information.
